Site History

The Website of Louis de Pointe du Lac began on September 1, 1996 and was hosted on my University of Alberta student account. I was just learning and it only had a black background with red text, a few flickering candles and a dripping blood bar, none which I made myself. It was inspired by lack of websites (in fact there was only one) about my beloved Green Eyed One. My quest for Louis sites came up with nothing but Lestat. From utter frustration, I started my own site about Louis. That was version 1. The URL was http://www.ualberta.ca/~aywong.

On March 1997, I moved to a new host, Geocities because I was about to graduate from University and I would thus lose my account. Nothing exceptionally new except I figured out how to do an intro splash page where I added a picture of Brad Pitt as Louis holding a candle. I also learned how to do frames. That was version 2. The URL was http://www.geocities.com/Paris/Metro/1766.

Version 3 was done on October 1998. I also moved to Xoom because suddenly Geocities threw more than just a pop up. They added a banner, a watermark and now, an ad square. ARRGGHH!! I got rid of frames because I thought they were rather ugly and I learned how to design with tables. The URL was http://members.xoom.com/vampirelouis.

Since Xoom suddenly put this amazingly ugly adframe, ruining the entire look, I moved the site to Redrival. I got rid of the candles and bloodbar because I felt it was passe. I started to test the site with various color changes to see which text color was least strenous. Version 4 was unleashed May 2000 and was brief. It was more a testing phase. The URL was http://www.redrival.com/vampirelouis.

Version 5 was done on January 2001. I decided on white text on black background with green text. Did some graphics for the menu. And added stylesheets.

Version 6 was done in May 2001. I moved to Freespeech.org because Redrival was unstable and they suddenly had a banner that I felt was too large. Went back to frames because now I learned how to do it properly and nicely. Main content is white background with black text, easier on the eyes. Changed to a more legible font and size. Links in green. Used more stylesheets. A varying monthly image of Louis was presented. The URL was http://www.freespeech.org/vampirelouis.

September 1, 2001 marked the fifth anniversary of this site. I decided to give it the gift of a domain name. After much tossing around, I chose http://www.beautifulone.net.

Version 7 was done on September 1, 2002 for the sixth anniversary of this site. I did complete CSS stylesheets, switched to tables and all colors were switched to softer shades of grey. Giving Louis a more romantic atmosphere. This is the first site where all graphics were designed entirely by me.

Version 8 was done on October 4, 2003 for Louis' birthday and mark of the last Vampire Chronicle to be published. Sort of a last dash hope that there will be no more writings from him but this site will go on. Decided to go for a more earthtone, less complicated look.

This is Version 9 was done on March 26, 2007 and was just a complete reorganization and movement into php to make it more streamlined.

This site is run by me, SilverHawk, and stems from my absolute love for the character Louis de Pointe du Lac. Everything is dedicated to him. This site will always be here as long as I love him, even if he has no more fans.
