Cinema - Filming Locations

Where oh where was Interview With The Vampire filmed? For those who might be doing some site seeing, this is for you! If any of you have pictures of these places, please send them here so I can include them!

New Orleans

  1. Orleans Parish levee at Jackson Barracks was made into a large outdoor waterfront city.
  2. Oak Alley Plantation was used as the Pointe du Lac plantation.
  3. Laurel Valley near Thibodaux slave cabins were used for filming of the slave cabins.
  4. Destrehan Plantation was used as the exterior shots of the Pointe du Lac plantation.
  5. Home Place in Hahnville, Louisiana was the tavern where Louis and Lestat go to watch a show while feeding on a girl.
  6. Mississippi River was the setting where Louis and Claudia leave New Orleans by boat and see New Orleans in flames.
  7. Several boats and ships were sent in to give it the look of a harbour. Two ships were mentioned by name...Gazela of Philadelphia and Alexandria of Alexandria, Virginia.
  8. French Quarter, 700 - 900 Royal Street and Jackson Square were converted to look like that time period.
  9. Pere Antoine Alley was also filmed.
  10. Lafayette Cemetary was the gravesite where Louis' wife and child were buried and where Louis was given the dark gift in the movie. The tomb was constructed from styrofoam. The area of the cemetary was reconstructed with new trees and grass and after filming was done, everything was left as is along with the tombstone. However, the tombstone is now gone since it fell apart and was taken away by apparent fans (whoever they are, I want a picture!). If you are looking for this filming location, here's some directions from Merciful Death as posted on the Vampire Louis Mailing List:
It was filmed in Lafayette Cemetary in the street side corner of the riverside uptown section. Those are New Orleanian directions. It is the corner nearest the corner of Coliseum and Sixth street. That corner is easily recognized, it is the only place in the cemetary with a wide empty space, and along the corner are four matching tombs = Griswold, Palfrey, Dupuy, Ginder.

London, England

  1. Pinewood Studios contained a reconstruction of the interior of Oak Alley plantation since it was a historic structure and it doesn't look good if you decide to burn it down. It also contained the interior of the room where the interview took place and the Theater of the Vampires.
  2. Wilton's Music Hall in Whitechapel
  3. Ensign Street
  4. Grace's Alley, Whitechapel

San Francisco

  1. Golden Gate Bridge was filmed at the start and end of the movie.
  2. Market Street and a part of a freeway were also used for filming.

Paris

  1. Filming took place at Rue St. Jacques, Rue Hirondelle, banks of the Seine under Pont Neuf, Palais Royal and Pere Lachaise Cemetary.
  2. The Paris Opera gallery was the location of the place where Louis and Claudia danced and the rotunda under the auditorium was their Paris hotel lobby.
